11mm OSB3 at a glance

OSB3 classification

Manufactured to the OSB3 classification under EN 300 for load-bearing applications in humid conditions.

11mm thickness

A useful thickness for a wide range of construction, roofing, flooring and sheathing applications.

Engineered construction

Timber strands are arranged in controlled orientations and bonded under heat and pressure to produce a consistent structural panel.

What is 11mm OSB3?

OSB stands for Oriented Strand Board. Unlike plywood, which is manufactured from layers of timber veneer, OSB is produced from engineered wood strands. These strands are arranged in different orientations before being bonded together under heat and pressure.

This engineered construction gives OSB useful strength, stiffness and dimensional stability. The orientation of the strands also provides directional mechanical properties, making OSB3 suitable for a wide range of structural applications when correctly specified and installed.

Important: OSB3 is designed for use in humid conditions, but it should not be treated as a permanently waterproof board. Good detailing, edge protection, drainage and suitable covering are important where boards may be exposed to moisture or weather.

Common uses for 11mm OSB3

Roof sheathing

Used as a structural roof sheathing panel beneath suitable roofing systems, subject to the requirements of the project.

Roof decking

A practical engineered board for suitable roof construction where the specification and support arrangement allow for 11mm OSB3.

Flooring

Suitable for a range of flooring applications where the board thickness, support spacing and installation method are appropriate.

Wall sheathing

Used in timber-frame and other construction systems to provide a practical structural sheathing panel.

Timber-frame construction

A widely used engineered panel for sheathing timber structures and construction frameworks.

Sheds & workshops

Useful for walls, floors, roofs, workspaces and general construction projects where a robust sheet material is required.

11mm OSB3 sheet sizes

We offer a range of practical sheet sizes to suit different projects, from full boards through to smaller panels that can be easier to handle, transport and work with.

8 × 4 2440 × 1220mm
8 × 3 2440 × 915mm
8 × 2 2440 × 610mm
8 × 1 2440 × 305mm
6 × 3 1830 × 915mm
4 × 3 1220 × 915mm
4 × 2 1220 × 610mm
4 × 1 1220 × 305mm
3 × 3 915 × 915mm
3 × 2 915 × 610mm
2 × 2 610 × 610mm
Smaller panels Various practical sizes

We focus on practical sizes that are convenient to handle and suitable for delivery. Availability can vary by product and pack quantity.

11mm OSB3 for flooring

11mm OSB3 can be used in flooring systems where the board thickness and support arrangement are appropriate for the intended loading. The correct thickness depends on factors including joist spacing, spans, loading and the construction method.

For heavier-duty flooring applications or wider joist centres, a thicker OSB board may be more appropriate. Always follow the structural design and installation requirements for the specific project.

11mm OSB3 for roofing

OSB3 is commonly used as a roof sheathing material in timber construction. Its engineered structure provides a useful combination of strength, stiffness and dimensional consistency.

Boards should be installed as part of a correctly designed roofing system, with suitable support, fixing, ventilation, weather protection and detailing. OSB3 should not be left permanently exposed to the weather.

Frequently asked questions

What is 11mm OSB3 used for?

11mm OSB3 is commonly used for roofing, flooring, wall sheathing, timber-frame construction, sheds, workshops and general building applications where its structural classification is appropriate.

Is 11mm OSB3 waterproof?

No. OSB3 is designed for load-bearing use in humid conditions, but it is not a permanently waterproof board. It should be properly protected and detailed where it may encounter moisture or weather exposure.

What is the difference between OSB3 and plywood?

OSB3 is manufactured from oriented wood strands, whereas plywood is made from layers of timber veneer. Both can be used structurally, but the appropriate product depends on the application, specification, grade and required performance.

Can 11mm OSB3 be used for flooring?

It can be used in suitable flooring systems, but the required thickness depends on joist spacing, loading, spans and the construction method. Check the project specification before installation.

Can 11mm OSB3 be used for roofing?

Yes. OSB3 is commonly used for roof sheathing in timber construction. The board must be correctly supported, fixed and protected as part of the overall roofing system.

Can OSB3 be cut and drilled?

Yes. OSB3 can generally be cut, drilled and fixed using standard woodworking and construction tools. Appropriate dust control and personal protective equipment should be used when working with sheet materials.

What sheet sizes are available?

We offer practical sizes including 8×4, 8×3, 8×2, 8×1, 6×3, 4×3, 4×2, 4×1, 3×3, 3×2 and 2×2, together with smaller panels where available.
