How Many Sheets Do I Need?
The number of sheets required depends on the size of the area you need to cover, the dimensions of the sheet you choose and the amount of material lost through cutting. Our sheet material calculator provides an area-based estimate for plywood, marine plywood, OSB, MDF and trailer flooring boards.

How Much Wastage Should I Allow?
For a straightforward project with simple rectangular cuts, 5% may be sufficient. For many general projects, 10% is a sensible starting point. Projects involving numerous cuts, awkward shapes or smaller individual pieces may benefit from allowing 15% or more.
The calculator uses an area-based estimate. It does not create a detailed cutting plan, so the actual quantity can be higher if your individual pieces cannot be arranged efficiently on the selected sheet.
Choosing the Right Sheet Size
Larger sheets can be efficient for large areas, while smaller sheets can be useful for smaller projects and may be easier to handle. The best option depends on the dimensions of the pieces you need to cut as well as the overall area.
